Built during the 14th century, the Palazzo Vecchio is one of the most beautiful monuments in Florence. The main body of the palace reflects its previous existence as a fortress. The belfry above it adds a little more majesty and balance to the whole place. The palace interior is impressive with its sumptuous decor including murals and carved ceilings, as well as paintings and frescoes. Now housing the municipal department of Florence, Palazzio Vecchio can be visited throughout the year.
