Small glimpse of the Gorges du Verdon

Do you want to escape and plan a long weekend for the future May holidays? An idea among many others, for nature and hiking fans, for thrill seekers, an extraordinary place with grandiose landscapes that you are not about to forget!

Where to stay in the Gorges du Verdon ?

First of all, the place to sleep: between Moustiers-Sainte-Marie, Castellane, La Palud-sur-Verdon, or closer to the Sainte-Croix lake, accommodation is not lacking, but it is necessary to think of reserving for the May holidays and during the months of July/August, because they are very frequented places!

Our favorite hotel: the Hôtel des Gorges du Verdon, perfectly located to discover this canyon, and true haven of peace and well-being after days rich in emotions. This beautiful and charming house, with its cascading terraces, offers a unique panorama of the Alpes-de-Hautes-Provence. After a long day outdoors, you can enjoy the restaurant and its cuisine with a thousand and one flavors and scents of the sun, carefully prepared with fresh local produce. The must: a Cinq Mondes spa is at your disposal: 200 m² of well-being with hammam, sauna, balneotherapy, jacuzzi, shower with chromotherapy, without counting the numerous body treatments... You will not want to leave again!

What to do in the Gorges du Verdon?

Numerous hiking trails run along the Gorges du Verdon and offer extraordinary views from the cliffs to the riverside. Turquoise water, sheer cliffs, azure sky, you'll be breathless! One of the most famous paths is the Blanc-Martel path: a path that runs along the Verdon for 15 kilometres from the entrance to the canyon, known as the "sublime point" up to the Chalet de la Maline, even if it is often advisable to do so in the other direction to admire the most beautiful view points with the "good" sunlight. In high season, shuttles will allow you to rally the two points to avoid taking two cars and waste time.

If you are a fan of strong sensations, depending on the weather and the current, it is possible to go rafting or canyoning in the gorges. Many centres are located all along the Verdon. For those who fear the currents, but still want to touch this turquoise water, the canoe is a good compromise! The bottom of the wider Canyon is more suitable for canoe-kayaking, round trip from Sainte-Croix lake. Contemplate the landscapes in tranquility, the points of view of this stroll are absolutely grandiose, to forget to paddle sometimes!

Finally, if you are not too cold and the weather permits, bathe in the turquoise waters of the Sainte-Croix lake: many small coves make it possible to avoid the very busy beach of the village of Sainte-Croix-du-Verdon, and to take full advantage of this moment of relaxation. Here again turquoise water and sublime landscapes will make this bathing a privileged moment of your stay!

The Gorges du Verdon often leave to their visitors an imperishable memory, and it is also possible to traverse them by car or by motorbike, the principal being to see them under the sun!
