Escape to Italy at Lake Maggiore

This lake between Piedmont and Lombardy is considered the most majestic of the Italian lakes.

Do you know the Italian lakes? Lake Como, Lake Maggiore, Lake Garda: these places offer absolutely unique landscapes that you must discover at least once in your life. There are so many things to see in these three magnificent places that you often have to come several times! Here is some information about Lake Maggiore.

Lake Maggiore

This lake with its northern end in Switzerland has a very large surface. You can discover the famous Borromean Islands, of which there are 5 but only 3 can be visited: Isola Madre, Isola dei Pescatori and Isola Bella.

The Isola Madre, the most extensive, is famous for its peacocks which walk in freedom, its birds, its botanical gardens.

On the Isola dei Pescatori ("Fishermen's Islands", also called Isola Superiore), there is a small village with fishermen's houses (the island still has about fifty inhabitants today), shops and restaurants where you can enjoy good fish.

Finally, Isola Bella houses a palace, a cave and beautiful flower gardens with fruit trees.

From these 3 islands, the view of Lake Maggiore is omnipresent. Depending on the weather, you will have the opportunity to see very different landscapes, but in any case always very beautiful.

Small motor boats shuttle between the 3 islands. There are different "formulas" allowing you, according to the time you have at your disposal, to visit from 1 to 3. For visits and prices, it's here: www.isoleborromee.com.

The Borromean Islands are not the only ones on Lake Maggiore, which also includes the two Brissago Islands on the Swiss side, one of which houses the Ticino Botanical Garden.

Of course, Lake Maggiore has also miles of coastline and therefore a multitude of cities from which to admire the beauty of the lake, whether by car, bicycle, on foot, or even by train! There is a "Lago Maggiore Express" formula, combining a small panoramic train and a boat, which allows you to discover Lake Maggiore in one day via Italy and Switzerland.
