Nature in the Luberon

Discovering the hinterland of Provence, a magnificent region between nature and heritage...

The sunny weekend season in the south of France is open! When we associate "sun" and "south of France", we often think of the French Riviera and all its seaside towns. But, for once, why not go and discover treasures of greenery and heritage? This is what the Luberon has to offer, a 180,000 hectare natural park with numerous villages, each more charming than the next. The Luberon Regional Nature Park is located between the Alpilles Regional Nature Park and the Verdon Regional Nature Park.

To visit the Luberon is to discover castles, ochre quarries, admire landscapes with a thousand shades of green... and fill up with old stones! The most famous village of the Luberon is undoubtedly that of Gordes, a perched citadel classified as one of the most beautiful villages in France, which is a real wonder to visit. As you approach the village, you will have a magnificent view of the whole, then by visiting it you will be charmed by its many alleys and the superb view that you will have, from this perch, on nature as far as the eye can see.

The village of Gordes

There are many activities in the Luberon, whether sports or cultural. You will be able among other things to make circuits on the topic of the olive while passing by Pertuis, Cabrières d'Aigues or Saint-Saturnin-lès-Apt to visit olive groves and mills with olive oil or to make excursions or bicycle on the roads connecting the various ochre sites, natural places with the colors of the sun of a rare beauty, as in Gargas, Rustrel or Roussillon.

The Sentier des Ocres in Roussillon

Stop in Apt, the candied fruit capital of the world, to enjoy these typical sweets, taste "wheat bread miller" - an original production of the city - or visit lavender and lavandin distilleries. The Luberon also has many castles, such as that of Lourmarin or Ansouis, old churches, abbeys such as the famous Notre-Dame-de-Sénanque Abbey in Gordes, windmills, lively markets, walking paths...

By visiting the Luberon, you will be sure to discover the most beautiful treasures of Provence!
